Thiruvananthapuram: The supply of drinking water will be disrupted in several parts of the city on Tuesday due to maintenance work at the treatment plant at Aruvikkara, Kerala Water Authority (KWA) informed on Sunday.
KWA is planning to replace the air valve of the pipe that pumps water to the 75 MLD plant, as it was malfunctioning. This will ensure a smooth supply of water.
The maintenance work will start at 11am on Tuesday and can be finished by 5pm. The supply of water will be disrupted during this period at Secretariat, Statue, MG Road, Pulimoodu, General Hospital, Thampuran Mukku, Vanchiyoor, Rishimangalam, Sasthamangalam, Althara, Vazhuthacaud, and Edapazhanji.
The public is urged to take necessary measures to cope with the situation. "We try to do it without any supply disruption as we did during the replacement of the valves of other plants. The work will be started after storing enough water in the reservoirs, and the chances are scant for supply disruption. But by foreseeing the worst situation, we issue alerts to the public to avoid causing any inconvenience. The valve of the 86 MLD plant was replaced in just half an hour recently, and there was no disruption," said a KWA officer.
