Varanasi: Violence erupted in Ghosi area of Mau district on Friday late night following a collision between two motorcycles, following which, one motorcycle rider attacked the other with a sharp-edged weapon. Angered by the attack, hundreds of locals from the injured youth's side began brick-batting at the Ghosi community health centre, injuring several cops, including CO and SHO of Ghosi, while many vehicles were also damaged.
After bringing the situation under control by using force late at night, officials deployed a heavy police force and PAC in Ghosi township on Saturday. The injured youth Sukkhu Rajbhar (22) was referred to the trauma centre of BHU in Varanasi.
Mau SP Elamaran G said the situation was peaceful in Ghosi town, where a heavy force from six police stations and PAC were deployed, while ASP, CO, and other senior officials were camping to monitor the situation. The condition of Rajbhar was stable and a team of the chief medical officer was in contact with trauma centre doctors to monitor his condition. He added that, on the complaint of Rajbhar's mother, FIR was lodged against the assailant, and further investigation had begun.
Police teams worked hard to combat spread of rumours, as the assailant is from another community. The SP said social media was being monitored to prevent the spread of false information. He warned that stern action would be taken in case of making false information viral to disturb peace and harmony.
Rajbhar, a resident of Rajbhar Basti in the Baragaon area of Ghosi, said he was returning home with his niece on a motorcycle on Friday late evening. As they were passing through the Madhuban area, a local youth Danish's motorcycle collided with his vehicle. This led to an exchange of heated words between Rajbhar and Danish. Rajbhar said when he turned to take his niece home, Danish attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon and fled along with his accomplices.
Ghosi police rushed Rajbhar to Ghosi CHC after reaching the spot. As news of the attack on Rajbhar spread, hundreds gathered at the CHC and following rumours regarding his health condition, started hurling stones at the CHC.
Police personnel, including CO Ghosi and local police station in charge suffered injuries.
