Rourkela: Defying the age barrier, 78-year-old Joy Krishna Swain has achieved remarkable academic success by completing his master's degree in public administration in first division, securing 70% marks from Odisha State Open University, Sambalpur.
Not content with this achievement, the septuagenarian has already enrolled the PG in political science at the same university, demonstrating that the pursuit of knowledge knows no age limit.
"This is the result of my passion for continuous learning. There is no age bar for studying, but patience is required. I will continue my academic journey as long as my body permits," says Swain, who resides in Balijodi ABC colony, Fertiliser Township, Rourkela.
Despite facing health challenges, including diabetes and hypertension since 2020, and caring for his wife who is battling cancer, Swain's determination remains unshaken. The father of four and grandfather of two maintains an unwavering commitment to education.
Swain's academic journey started with his matriculation from Jagatsinghpur district, followed by an intermediate degree in arts from Government College, Baripada, and graduation in economics honours from Utkal University. His professional career included roles as revenue inspector, economic investigator, and industrial officer before his retirement in 2004.
Post-retirement, Swain devoted his time to social work and spiritual activities before deciding to return to formal education in 2020. His recent academic success has become an inspiration for many, proving that learning is truly a life-long process.
