Jaipur: Six of the seven police personnel suspended over unauthorised surveillance on the location of Bhiwadi superintendent of police (SP) Jyeshtha Maitrei have been reinstated, according to officials. Five of them resumed duty on Saturday after being issued chargesheets under the 17 CCA rules. Another policeman, a constable, was reinstated earlier, as his role in the incident was not substantiated. The main accused, cyber cell in-charge sub-inspector Shravan Joshi, remains suspended and faces a separate chargesheet under the 16 CCA rules.
The case came to light on Oct 2 when SP Jyeshtha Maitrei received a tip-off that her mobile location was being tracked by the cyber cell. Subsequent investigations revealed that sub-inspector Joshi was leading the snooping operation, with six other police personnel allegedly involved. On Oct 7, aitrei suspended Joshi along with head constable Avnesh Kumar and constables Rahul, Satish, Deepak, Bheem, and Rohtas. The investigation was later handed over to DSP Shivraj Singh.
Constable Bheem was reinstated by the SP herself as his role in the case was not established. Jaipur Range Inspector General (IG) Ajay Pal Lamba explained that the five reinstated officers were charged with suppressing information about the snooping rather than actively participating in it.
"They have now been reinstated and transferred to other districts outside Bhiwadi," said IG Lamba.
