Noida: A 35-year-old man, who stabbed a fellow customer after a heated argument at a meat shop in Sorkha, Noida, was arrested following a gunfight on Friday.
The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon when the accused, Amarjeet Mahato, a resident of Chhapra in Bihar, allegedly attacked Shahzad, a resident of Sorkha village in Sector 113, with a knife at the shop.
Deputy commissioner of police Rambadan Singh said that Mahato had visited the meat shop where Shahzad asked him for his scarf. When Mahato refused, the argument escalated into a physical altercation.
"During the clash, Mahato grabbed a knife from the shop and stabbed Shahzad. Witnesses reported that as Shahzad tried to flee, Mahato chased him with the knife and attempted to attack him again. After the assault, Mahato took some meat from the shop and fled the scene," said DCP Singh.
He further added that CCTV footage retrieved by the police corroborated parts of the incident.
Acting on the information, the police launched a manhunt for Mahato, who had fled to the forested areas of Sector 117.
On Friday, officers located Mahato, who tried to evade arrest by firing at the police. During the ensuing gunfight, Mahato sustained a leg injury and was subsequently apprehended.
The police recovered the knife used in the stabbing and an illegal pistol from Mahato.
"Mahato was taken to the hospital for treatment, and further investigations into his criminal history are underway," said an official.
