Noida: Greater Noida Authority will use the latest technologies, including sensors and artificial intelligence, to readdress the annual waterlogging problem in parts of the city. The Authority has initiated a process to hire an agency for the work.
After rains caused havoc this monsoon, the Authority identified 21 spots where waterlogging has been a recurring problem. Among these are Knowledge Park underpass, Jagat Farm, near Aster Public in Delta 2, and villages such as Roja Jalalpur, Milak Lachi, Shahberi, Badalpur, Chhapraula, Sadullapur, Vaidpura, Dadri Road, Kulesra, DSC Road, Tilapta, Bodaki and Kasna.
After identifying these key waterlogging hotspots, the Authority invited applications from expert agencies to finalise one agency that can make use of the latest innovative technology in addressing the waterlogging issues in Greater Noida.
"Once the expert agencies apply for the project, they will give presentations about their action plan to address the issue, and then we will finalise one that will be the most effective in solving the issue," said AK Singh, general manager, GNIDA.
The selected agency will be responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive stormwater drainage system in these flood-prone zones. The agency will also be tasked with incorporating sustainable practices like rainwater harvesting and green infrastructure into the project.
"The agency to be hired will install sensor-based cameras so that real-time updates about these spots can be received, and on the basis of the information, action can be taken to resolve the issue," said Singh.
The agency will leverage technology to establish a system that provides real-time information on potential waterlogging situations, enabling timely preventative action. GNIDA has already begun addressing the issue by repairing roads damaged by waterlogging and the drainage system following the monsoon season.
