T'puram: Byelection in 31 local self-govt wards across 11 districts (excluding Ernakulam, Wayanad and Kasargod) will be held on Dec 10, said state election commissioner A Shajahan on Thursday. The byelections will be held in four block panchayat wards, three municipality wards, 23 grama panchayat wards and one district panchayat ward and election notification will be issued on Nov 15.
Nominations can be submitted until Nov 22 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is Nov 25. Counting will be held on Dec 11 and 192 polling stations will be set up for the bypolls.
The panel said that the model code of conduct has come into effect and it will be applicable in respective wards, municipalities and whole grama panchayat areas. The voters' list for the byelection was published on Oct 19, and there are 1,51,055 voters as per the list. Of these, 71,697 are men and 79,087 are women. There is one transgender person among eligible voters.
The deposit money to be remitted is Rs 5,000 in district panchayats, Rs 4,000 in municipality and block panchayats and Rs 2,000 in grama panchayat. Candidates belonging to SC/ST sections need to pay only half of the deposit money. TNN
