A lecture, titled ‘Dr Allama Iqbal: A Great Philosopher', on the occasion of Allama Iqbal Day and Urdu Day was organised at Karamat Husain Muslim Girls' PG College, on Saturday.
Led by college manager Syed Naved Ahmad and principal Prof Huma Khwaja, the Urdu department welcomed Qamar Rahman, environmental toxicologist, and retired deputy director of CSIR, Lucknow, as chief guestof the event. She spoke on philosophical views of Dr Allama Iqbal and his contribution to Urdu poetry.
Prof Huma Khwaja said Urdu Day was significant to uphold cultural values that impacted South Asian art and Urdu literature. Ghazals by Iqbal were sung by aritists. Head of Urdu department, Prof Shabnam Rizvi, along with Dr Saima Rafat and Dr Nuzhat Fatima coordinated the programme.
