New Delhi: Public Works Department (PWD) will do a structural audit of an old bridge over the Barapullah drain that is near the Oberoi flyover.
Over the years, due to vehicle movement, the structure has weakened and needs repairs, officials said.
The department will carry out 3D mapping of the bridge's concrete structure to determine the damage. The mapping technology will help engineers analyse the internal composition of the concrete structure, particularly focusing on the load-bearing pillars. This advanced technique will provide detailed imagery of the cracks, deterioration and other structural issues that may not be visible during routine inspections. "We have floated a tender for repairs of the old bridge over the Barapullah drain. It is being planned for repair, and based on the audit report, the cost estimate and further planning will be done," a PWD official said.
The assessment will include testing the strength of the concrete, examining reinforcement conditions, and evaluating the bridge deck's integrity. Engineers will also study the impact of environmental factors such as rain and temperature variations on the structure's stability. tnn
