Agra: A local court in Aligarh sentenced a 45-year-old tuition teacher to three years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 58,000 on Saturday for thrashing and threatening a 7-year-old student. The judgment, delivered by fast track court ADJ Raghavendra Mani, highlighted the psychological harm caused to the child, emphasising that "such acts deeply impact a child's mental development and breach the sacred teacher-student relationship".
On Nov 18, 2018, Amit Kumar, resident of Vikas Nagar, filed a complaint at the Gandhi Park police station, saying that his son, a second-grade student at a private school, had started showing signs of fear and distress. Despite efforts to understand the problem, the child remained silent, prompting the family to consult a psychiatrist. Amit checked CCTV footage
showing the teacher had thrashed the boy.
Additionally, the child disclosed that the teacher had threatened to kidnap him. Following this revelation, the police registered a case, arrested the teacher, and filed a chargesheet in court.
Additional district govt counsel JP Chauhan said, "The judge remarked that such conduct by a teacher has a lasting negative impact on the mental development of children and goes against the traditional values of the teacher-student bond."
