Ranchi: A day after the Jharkhand high court quashed a PIL against state govt's flagship Maiyan Samman Yojana, a monthly fiscal incentive for women aged between 19-50, Jharkhand Congress, a part of the ruling alliance in the state, on Friday hailed the verdict, stating that it has also exposed BJP's nefarious plan to stall women-friendly scheme in this poll-bound state.
A Simdega-based resident, Vishnu Sahu, had knocked HC's door against the scheme calling it the state govt's attempt to woo voters just before the elections. Congress has claimed that the PIL was orchestrated by BJP.
Chief minister Hemant Soren too on Thursday hailed the court's verdict, stating that he and his govt will continue to fight for its continuation even if BJP approaches the Supreme Court to challenge lower court's order now.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Congress chief spokesperson Lal Kishorenath Shahdeo said, "We welcome HC's verdict on the Maiyan scheme. It was filed under the influence of BJP. We thank the judiciary for protecting the sanctity of the Constitution. This decision is a victory for democracy and a reminder that no political party or individual is above the law."
He accused the saffron party of trying to manipulate public sentiment by its divisive politics. "But public is now aware of BJP tactics and will no longer be misled," he said.
Notably, BJP has also announced Gogo Didi Yojana, a similar scheme for women promising to provide Rs 2100 if voted to power. To counter it, the Hemant govt has announced to hike the existing amount of Rs 1000 to Rs 2500 from December onwards.
