New Delhi: Two Punjab-based agents were arrested by at IGI Airport for orchestrating an elaborate scheme involving fake Malaysian entry stamps and illegal border crossings, police reported on Friday.
The suspects, identified as Kanta Singh (30) and Gurpreet Kaur (32), were apprehended after their client, Sandeep Kaur, was detained during a document inspection that revealed counterfeit Malaysian immigration stamps in her passport.
The operation came to light when Sandeep Kaur, who was promised a lucrative job abroad, was fired from her position in Malaysia and attempted to return to India through Thailand. Upon her arrival at the IGI Airport, an examination of her travel documents exposed the fraudulent activity.
According to police, the agents arranged Sandeep Kaur's journey to Thailand and then facilitated her illegal entry into Malaysia via the "donkey route" — a term used for unauthorised border crossings. The agents also obtained fake Malaysian immigration stamps to create the illusion of a legitimate travel history.
"This was a well-orchestrated syndicate that duped innocent job-seekers with the promise of employment abroad," said DCP (IGI Airport) Usha Rangnani.
Police had already arrested one of the key members of the syndicate, Raju, from Amritsar, Punjab. The latest arrests of Kanta Singh and Gurpreet Kaur dealt a significant blow to the operation.
Further investigation to trace other individuals involved in the scheme is underway, police said.
