New Delhi: Taking cognisance of a complaint by BJP MLA Vijender Gupta about alleged extravagant expenditure incurred on interior decoration and amenities at 6, Flagstaff Road, Central Vigilance Commission has asked Central Public Works Department to examine it. The bungalow was occupied by AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal when he was the chief minister.AAP responded by saying that BJP-led central govt was free to conduct any investigation and that Kejriwal and the entire party were "staunchly honest".
In his complaint to CVC, Gupta, the leader of the opposition in the Delhi Assembly, alleged that there were blatant violations of rules in the renovation and construction of the bungalow. "Such exaggerated expenditure on these items smacks of high-level corruption by govt and requires immediate investigation," Gupta stated in his complaint. "The use of taxpayers' money for ostentatious upgrades also raises questions about the prioritisation of public welfare over personal luxury," he added.
The BJP MLA earlier sent a complaint to CVC against alleged irregularities in the renovation and reconstruction of the bungalow, on which CPWD was asked to submit a "factual report". Responding to the complaint, CVC said it was forwarded to the CPWD's chief vigilance officer for necessary action.
AAP claimed it was because of their "unwavering honesty" that Kejriwal was the "most popularly elected" CM ever in the country. It added that BJP launched several investigations against AAP govt and its ministers and functionaries but failed to uncover "a single rupee of wrongdoing". "Instead of engaging in negative politics, BJP should focus on understanding people's problems and working towards real solutions," the party stated.
