Amritsar: Claiming that the role of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) is akin to that of a “state within a state”, SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami said that this is seen as a source of contention by the central govt.
Speaking during the congregation held on the 104th foundation day of SGPC on Friday, Dhami said that the SGPC has managed gurdwaras according to the panthic spirit during its journey of more than a century and has played a leading role in guarding Sikh concerns.
Alleging that constant efforts were being made to subvert the existence of SGPC, Dhami alleged, “Govts are continuously trying to limit its jurisdiction. After indirectly taking over the management of Takht Sri Patna Sahib, Takht Sri Hazur Sahib (Nanded), Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, and Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, their intention now is to grab SGPC management.”
