Mysuru: The University of Mysore (UoM) campus witnessed two protests on Friday morning from the students. The first protest was by the inmates of the women's hostels of the university demanding better facilities, and quality food while research scholars held a protest seeking change in the eligibility criteria for the OBC scholarship.
The inmates of the women's hostels held the protest in front of the clock tower with the ‘upma' served to them alleging worms are in the food served to them. They urged the university authorities to ensure quality food. They also alleged that the basic infrastructure in the hostels was crumbling, causing a lot of problems for them.
The protest was withdrawn after the senior officials of the university assured the students that their grievances will be addressed at the earliest.
The OBC research scholars held a protest opposing the new guidelines fixed for the research grants for them. They alleged that the university introduced new eligibility clauses like only students who pursued post-graduation are eligible for the research grants, maximum age of 35 years etc. The agitators alleged that these new clauses denied them the opportunity to pursue research in the university.
