Mysuru: The additional district sessions court judge in Kollegal on Saturday awarded a five-year imprisonment and imposed a penalty of Rs 50,000 on a man for cutting and smuggling 20kg of sandalwood logs. The convict is Ravinaika.
Based on a complaint filed by forest department officials, who caught Ravinaika red-handed while selling sandalwood logs along with two accomplices on Nov 4 near Lokkanahalli in Hanur taluk, the Hanur Town police station registered a case.
Hanur circle inspector Mohit Sahadeva submitted a chargesheet to the court. The court, which conducted the proceedings regarding the case on Saturday, awarded five years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine. Failing to pay the penalty, the court extended another six months of imprisonment to the convict, stated assistant public prosecutor Vijayalakshmi.
