Coimbatore: A 42-year-old man was murdered by three unidentified men at Vagarayampalayam near Karumathampatti in Coimbatore district on Friday evening.
The deceased was identified as P Elangovan,42, of Vagarayampalayam.
Police said three unidentified people barged into Elangovan's house around 6.15pm on Friday and hacked him to death.
Immediately, the trio managed to escape from the house. Karumathampatti police sent the body to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for a postmortem.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that the deceased was in contact with a group who were into the illegal trade of ambergris, a waxy substance secreted by sperm whales. Police have formed three special teams to nab the murderers.
