Kanpur: A man allegedly murdered his cousin by crushing him under his truck after a minor dispute late on Thursday night in Bilhaur area of the district. The accused was under the influence of alcohol.
On being informed, the police reached the site and launched an investigation after lodging a case against two persons in the matter. One of the accused has been arrested while a search has been launched to nab the main accused.
Ajit Kumar Yadav (34), alias Raju, a farmer and a resident of Dadikha village in Bilhaur police station area, was the only son of Sahab Lal Yadav. He is survived by his wife Geeta Devi, and a 12-year-old son Rishabh. According to Geeta, her husband's cousins, Sallam Yadav and Bainu, residents of Dhaka Purwa village, called her husband on Thursday morning for some work. He returned home around 8pm.
After some time they called him again. They entered into a heated argument over the phone after which Ajit hung up and left. Geeta, her son and two other family members, followed Ajit and reached near a dhaba on Bilhaur-Bangarmau road outside the village.
Sallam and Bainu also arrived there on their truck and began hurling abuses on Ajit under the influence of alcohol. When confronted, they drove the truck away but returned from a short distance, turned off the headlights, and tried to run over the group. While others fled to save their lives, Ajit was hit by the truck and died on the spot.
Sallam managed to escape but Bainu was caught by the villagers and was handed over to the police.
The police have sent the body for post-mortem. Station officer Ashok Kumar said that on the complaint by the deceased's wife, Geeta Devi, a case was registered against the two under various sections, including murder. Search for the main accused is underway, he said.
Sallam Yadav, who was driving the truck, already has several cases against him. Additionally, his involvement in other criminal activities is being investigated.
