Patna: A 28-year-old woman died, while six other people, including her husband, were injured in twin accidents involving two bikes, a truck and police vehicle on Bihta-Maner National Highway in Patna on Friday, triggering protest by the local residents.
First, the couple's bike was hit by a speeding truck hit while they were returning after taking bath in river Ganga in Maner. Soon, police arrived at the scene and started the procedure to seize the truck, when another bike with three riders hit them. As a result, the police vehicle crashed into the truck, injuring a sub-inspector (SI) and the driver of the patrolling vehicle, besides the three bike riders.
Bihta police station SHO Rajkumar Pandey said although they seized the truck, the driver is absconding.
The deceased was identified as Neelam Devi, and her injured husband as Malay Kumar Dev, residents of Maner. The deceased woman's body was sent for postmortem and her husband was admitted to Danapur hospital, the SHO said.
Other injured are sub-inspector Poonam Kumari, posted at Bihta police station, the second bike rider Arvind Kumar, his wife Anju Devi and brother-in-law Dinanath Sah.
They are being treated at ESIC Hospital, Bihta, while Anju has been referred to PMCH, said Pandey.
"The SI and the police driver received minor injuries. The SI, however, was taken to ESIC but was discharged after primary treatment. Further investigation is going on to identify the truck driver," he said.
Meanwhile, protesting the death, the local residents blocked the road. Upon receiving information, the local police and Dial-112 team reached the spot, and controlled the situation.
