New Delhi: A 23-year-old man associated with the Tillu Tajpuria gang was shot in his leg during an encounter and subsequently arrested in connection with the murder of a man in Alipur.
On Nov 9, Amit Lakra, a 26-year-old man who was released on bail in a robbery case, was shot dead in Mundka. The Tillu Tajpuriya-Davinder Bambiha gang claimed responsibility for the murder through a social media post. The assailants, riding a motorcycle, fired multiple rounds at Lakra before fleeing the scene. A case was registered to investigate the crime.
Police received information that the shooter would be present in Shahbad Dairy. On Nov 13, a trap was laid near UER-II road adjacent to Kheda Canal in Shahbad Dairy.
At 9 pm, the police team spotted the suspect riding a scooter. When signalled to stop, he attempted to flee but slipped and fell. As he tried to escape, he pulled out a pistol and fired at police. In self-defence, police returned fire, injuring the suspect. He was subsequently taken to a hospital for treatment.
A semi-automatic pistol with four live cartridges was recovered from the suspect. The suspect, identified as Nihal, has confessed to involvement in the murder of Lakra.
