Varanasi: Police personnel of Varanasi commissionerate are still groping in the dark for killers of billionaire trader Rajendra Gupta, his wife, and three children, even though 10 days have passed since the incident.
Police claim involvement of one of Gupta's nephews in the murder but have failed to trace him, despite claims of engaging many teams for his arrest.
Providing details of progress in the investigation of the Nov 4 case, DCP Kashi Zone Gaurav Banswal said teams engaged for arrest of Vicky, main accused and nephew of Gupta, are searching all possible locations. The tech-savvy accused had not been found so far, said the DCP, claiming that the case would be solved soon.
He said the outcome of the investigation so far brought to light the fact that to become sole owner of the entire family property, Gupta killed his brother and sister-in-law in Jun 1997 and in December 1997, he got his father and security guards killed. Police suspect that Vicky, who was 7 years old in 1997, had planned to avenge the killing of his parents and grandfather for a long time. The probe so far hints he acted alone at the crime scene, as all bodies in Bhadaini were found lying on the floor. The investigation indicates that Vicky first killed Gupta in a remote village in Rohania before reaching Bhadaini and killing the other four members of the family.
MCA in software development, Vicky is tech-savvy and has become a mystery for the investigators. The DCP said Vicky worked as a freelance app developer in Ahmedabad. People in the area where he lived as a paying guest mentioned that he didn't have a typical 9-to-5 job and used to spend most of his time in his room. There is a strong possibility he was preparing a plan to kill Gupta and his family for over one and a half years. Being a software developer, Vicky is well-versed in modern technologies. The DCP said Vicky's phone was switched off from Oct 22 to 24, almost a fortnight before he executed his plan on Nov 5. There was no mobile activity during this period, which is why police failed to locate him. Gupta's wife Neetu (45), their daughter Gaurangi (16), and sons Navnendra (25) and Suvendra (15) were shot dead at their home in Bhadaini late on Nov 4 night, while Gupta's body was recovered from his under-construction building at Sadarpur village on Nov 5 afternoon.
