New Delhi: MCD is undertaking renovation work in the area under the flyover near Sarai Kale Khan ISBT on Ring Road, whilst also building toilet facilities near the entrance of Baansera.
The enhancement project under the flyover includes soil replacement, rubbish removal, area sanitisation, vertical garden installation and planting of seasonal flora to improve the aesthetics of the previously unkempt space. "We aim to give a new lease of life to this place by planting exotic and seasonal plants. We set an initial deadline to finish the work by Friday. Later, we might give the site to an organisation for maintenance on a CSR basis," said an official.
PWD has installed protective grills around the open space beneath the flyover and enhanced the ceiling with paintings to improve its appearance. Officials stated these improvements aim to boost visitor numbers at Baansera Park, located on Yamuna floodplain.
DDA is installing a 20-foot tall metallic statue of tribal leader Birsa Munda near the entrance, marking his 150th birth anniversary. The 3,000 kg sculpture, created from recycled materials by MCD, will be unveiled by home minister Amit Shah on Thursday, celebrated nationwide as Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas. Two skilled fine arts sculptors from West Bengal, following the 'waste to art' concept, crafted the statue.
"The strategic location of the statue at a site where the Ring Road, RRTS Station, ISBT, Nizamuddin Railway and Metro Station, NH-24, Barapullah Flyover and DND Flyway converge to form a multi-modal transport hub, will ensure that lakhs of visitors and travellers get an opportunity to see the towering statue," said the official.
