Calangute: Calangute panchayat plans to develop a selfie and bird-watching spot alongside the Chogm road in front of the Calangute church, said sarpanch Joseph Sequeira on Thursday.
The Calangute panchayat on Thursday launched the work on a second footpath, with the first footpath on the opposite side nearly complete, he said.
Panchayat members said that with Calangute being a popular tourist destination, its footpaths would offer visitors a scenic walk with views of nearby fields. Besides footpaths, a small bridge along the road is being redeveloped with a platform for selfies and bird-watching, where tourists can spot peacocks, storks, egrets, and more.
“The footpaths were a long-felt necessity but delayed for various reasons. Nuns from the convent at Boa Viagem, schoolchildren, residents, and tourists will now be able to walk safely to the church,” panchayat members said. The two footpaths along Chogm road are being developed at an approximate cost of Rs 2.5 crore, the sarpanch said.
