Patna: A 25-year-old man was found hanging in a village orchard in Vaishali district on Thursday, with the family and police suspecting it to be a murder for opposing illegal liquor trade.
Police said it appears that Vinay Kumar, alias Bhajan Kumar, a resident of Chakdadan village, was strangled and then his body was hanged to make it look like a suicide. Packaged drinking water, snacks, cigarettes and matchsticks were recovered from the spot.
According to the police, Vinay's elder brother alleged that he was murdered for opposing the illegal liquor trade in the village.
"The body was found hanging from a tree around 100m away from his house. Local people noticed the body and informed the Dial-112 team. Upon receiving the information, the police and forensic team reached the spot. The body was sent for postmortem to the sadar hospital. An FIR against unknown people has been filed in the case," said Mahua police station SHO, Chhotelal Patwari.
Youngest of three brothers, Vinay had got married two years ago. He is also survived by a six-month-old daughter.
"Water bottles, snacks, disposable glasses and cigarette butts were found near the crime scene, leading to suspicion that a party took place there before the young man was murdered and his body was hung. His elder brother Vijay Rai stated that he was murdered because he always opposed the liquor trade in the area. All other aspects are being investigated in the matter," said the SHO.
