NEW DELHI: Violence broke out at a polling booth in Tonk district, Rajasthan, on Wednesday night after supporters of an independent candidate clashed with police.

The incident occurred in Samravta village in the Deoli-Uniara assembly constituency, where bypolls were being held.
Naresh Meena, the independent candidate, and his supporters were staging a dharna outside a polling station when police attempted to disperse them.
According to police, Meena’s supporters turned violent, throwing stones and setting at least one vehicle on fire.
"The exact number of vehicles burnt will be clear after the mob is dispersed," said IG Ajmer Omprakash.
"There was confirmation of one vehicle being set ablaze by the mob. Police are engaged in bringing law and order under control."
The confrontation began earlier in the day when Meena reportedly slapped an administrative officer on election duty. He then gathered his supporters, asking them to bring sticks, and began the dharna outside the polling station.
Police attempted to clear the area after polls closed so election officials could leave with the voting machines, which led to the violent clash.
Meena is facing calls for his arrest from the RAS officers' association, who are threatening a pen-down strike if he is not apprehended.
Bypolls for seven assembly seats in Rajasthan, including Deoli-Uniara, concluded Wednesday with vote counting scheduled for November 23.
