Thiruvananthapuram: As part of the waste-free Nava Kerala campaign, a children's haritasabha (green assembly) will be conducted in all local self-govt institutions across the state on Thursday.
The programme aims to ensure children's participation in waste management systems, transform educational institutions into models of cleanliness and waste management activities, and disseminate the pros and cons of these activities to the community through children.
The haritasabhas will serve as a platform for students to raise awareness about waste management among the new generation and contribute new ideas for a waste-free Nava Kerala. The haritasabhas will take place in 1,034 local self-govt institutions across the state, with around 250,000 students participating.
Each haritasabha will involve 150-200 children, selected in an equal gender ratio. A teacher from the respective schools will be appointed as the nodal officer to coordinate the activities with the local institution. A panel of three to five members will be formed to conduct the assembly. Student representatives will present reports evaluating activities related to waste management at the haritasabhas.
The report will include gaps and shortcomings in waste management systems within the local institution and schools, along with suggested solutions. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions to public representatives and officials on the presented topics.
