Kanpur: Additional Inspector Sanjeev Kumar was sent to lines on Wednesday by Commissioner of Police (CP) Akhil Kumar on charges of bribery. The CP also initiated a departmental probe against him.
Earlier on Tuesday, an audio clip involving the inspector and the victim's family went viral on social media, prompting the action. ACP Kalyanpur Abhishek Kumar Pandey said the action against the Additional Inspector was taken to ensure an impartial investigation.
Vishal Jaju, a manager of a garment company, had lodged a complaint against one Dinbandhu Dixit and his son Aditya, residents of Maswanpur, alleging breach of trust. An investigation in this connection was assigned to Additional Inspector Sanjeev Kumar. It was alleged that Dinbandhu was called to the police station for questioning, and Rs 1.5 lakh was demanded as bribe to release him. The viral audio caused an uproar in the department.
