Union Minister Piyush Goyal is confident that Mahayuti will be back in Maharashtra. At the CNBC-TV18 Global Leadership Summit 2024 on Thursday, November 14, the minister said: "The stronghold of Sharad Pawar can see winds changing. I am confident that Mahayuti will come back to make India a developed nation by 2047."

The 288-member Assembly will go to polls on November 20 and the result will be declared on November 23.

Goyal said Mahayuti will "clean sweep" Mumbai and Konkan.

"The people of Maharashtra will not fall for 'Khata-Khat' propaganda, fake promises, and so-called guarantees!" he said.

It is a straight fight between Mahayuti comprising of BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) and NCP (Ajit Pawar) and Maha Vikas Aghadi comprising of Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (Sharad Pawar).

A total of 4,140 candidates are in the fray for the Maharashtra polls.

The women factor

Both factions are trying their best to woo the women voters, that's nearly half the voter base in the state.

The Kandivali MP reiterated that the Mahayuti government will increase the instalment under the Ladki Bahin scheme to ₹2,100.

So far, Goyal said, women across the state have received five instalments of ₹1,500 each under the scheme. "Effectively in the next five years, every woman in that age group will receive ₹1.25 lakh a year," he added.

The opposition MVA alliance has, however, promised ₹3,000 per month for women under the "Mahalakshmi Scheme" and free travel on state transport buses.

Goyal said there is a need to get women into the formal economy. In the context of politics, he said, "We ensure 33% of MPs in Lok Sabha and state assemblies will be women once census exercise is done."

On the chief ministerial candidate, Goyal said the decision would be taken collectively. "We'll decide once the elections are over. A decision will be taken collectively, blessed by Prime Minister Modi and it will be smooth."
