The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has ordered a comprehensive investigation into Ola Electric following a surge of consumer complaints, according to CNBC-TV18 sources. The Consumer Affairs Ministry has asked the Director General (DG) Investigation, the CCPA's investigation wing, to lead the probe, prompted by what officials described as “unsatisfactory” responses from Ola Electric on prior complaints.

According to sources, the investigation will focus on assessing the nature of consumer grievances, including any deficiencies in services provided by Ola Electric. The move marks a significant step by the CCPA in ensuring consumer rights are upheld amid concerns regarding the electric vehicle manufacturer’s practices.

The DG Investigation team has been directed to analyse and compile a report on the findings, which will be submitted to the CCPA within 15 days. The outcome of this investigation will play a pivotal role in determining the CCPA’s subsequent actions against Ola Electric.

Earlier, Ola Electric responded to a CCPA show cause notice on October 21, 2024, claiming that it resolved over 99% of the complaints it received. However, the consumer watchdog's review points otherwise, prompting the regulator to probe the matter further.

The electric vehicle manufacturing company reported a net loss of ₹495 crore, which was slightly lower than the loss of ₹524 crore that it had reported during the same quarter last year. The company had reported a loss of ₹347 crore in the June quarter, its first reported quarter after listing.

Revenue for the period increased by 39.1% on a year-on-year basis to ₹1,214 crore, compared to ₹873 crore in the year-ago quarter.
