Prayagraj: A series of initiatives have been launched to ensure that Maha Kumbh-2025 sets a global benchmark for cleanliness and environmental sustainability.
Along with a ban on single-use plastic, a plastic buyback campaign and widespread awareness programmes to discourage plastic usage, the Mela authorities are also focusing on energy production from waste, efficient waste disposal mechanisms, and real-time cleanliness monitoring.
The state govt not only aims for convenience and best service for devotees but also to ensure a memorable experience.
In addition , awareness campaigns are being run, with a focus on reusable alternatives. Moreover, efforts are underway to create a plastic-free zone through volunteer initiatives, community engagement, no-plastic zone signage, and plastic-free boarding. Under the plastic buy-back program, visitors are being encouraged to return plastic items for recycling. The visitors will be offered rewards for each item returned.
Bio-digesters and composting units have been installed in the Mela area to convert organic waste into renewable energy. Trained staff and volunteers have also been deployed with waste collection tools to maintain cleanliness in the Mela area. TNN
