Vodafone Idea Ltd (Vi) reported its financial results for the second quarter (July-September) of FY2024 on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, with the telco's net loss widening to ₹7,176 crore, compared to ₹6,432 crore in the previous quarter.
VI's consolidated revenue from operations grew by 4% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ), reaching ₹10,932.2 crore in Q2, up from ₹10,508.3 crore in the first quarter.
Vi’s EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization) also posted an 8.2% increase, standing at ₹4,549.8 crore compared to ₹4,204.7 crore last quarter.
The EBITDA margin saw improvement as well, rising to 41.6% from 40% on a sequential basis, indicating improved operational efficiency.
The average revenue per user (ARPU), a key metric for telecom companies, rose to ₹166 in Q2 from ₹154 in Q1. VI's ARPU lagged behind that of Reliance Industries-owned Jio's Rs195.1 and Bharti Airtel's Rs233 for the same period.
All three Indian mobile carriers—Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea—increased their tariffs in June for the first time in over two years.
Vodafone Idea's user base fell 2.4% sequentially and 6.7% year-on-year to 20.5 crore as of September 30, smaller than Jio's 47.88 crore and Airtel's 40.7 crore.
Vodafone Idea, formed by a merger between the Indian arm of the UK's Vodafone Group and Aditya Birla Group's Idea Cellular in 2018, has posted a loss every quarter as it loses ground to larger rivals Airtel and Jio.
