Thiruvananthapuram: Nagaroor police are investigating the involvement of a 16-year-old boy in a petrol bomb attack on a house in Alamcode, which occurred on Monday night. The fire destroyed a car parked in front of the house.
Safarudeen S, the house owner, reported that this was the third such attack on his property in six months, with previous incidents involving the destruction of CCTV cameras.
The suspect, who lives just a few meters from Safarudeen's house, was questioned by police but denied any involvement. He was later released. Authorities suggest the boy might have been seeking revenge after a dispute with Safarudeen's daughter. However, the police have not confirmed his role in the attack.
Despite having CCTV cameras, Safarudeen's house was targeted in a location not covered by surveillance. Police noted that in previous incidents, the CCTV cameras were either destroyed or stolen. Following the second attack, Safarudeen installed new cameras, but the latest attack was carried out in areas out of camera view.
"There are CCTV cameras at the house, but the attack happened where they weren't accessible," the police explained.
The investigation is ongoing, with police exploring several leads. However, no substantial evidence has been found.
Safarudeen expressed frustration over the lack of action from the police despite his repeated complaints. He claimed that each time an attack occurred, the police response was slow, and only media attention had helped bring focus to the case. The damage in the latest attack is estimated at Rs 25 lakh, with windows, walls, and doors of the house also damaged in the fire.
