Patna: The Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University (RPCAU) has partnered with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) to work on reducing the adverse impacts of climate change and natural disasters on agriculture. The agreement was signed by RPCAU's climate change research center director Ratnesh Jha and UNESCAP's representative Sanjay Srivastava.
According to an agreement reached between the two organisations at RPCAU headquarters at Pusa on Wednesday, the partnership will focus on creating awareness about climate change and training farmers in climate-resilient agricultural practices. They will also conduct collaborative research on temperature rise and air quality and share global climate data and best practices in agriculture.
RPCAU's vice-chancellor P S Pandey said this collaboration will strengthen RPCAU's efforts to promote climate-resilient agriculture and support sustainable livelihoods for farmers.
"We will train farmers in digital agriculture and artificial intelligence to minimize the adverse effects of climate change. This initiative will help farmers adapt to climate-related challenges, such as floods and droughts, prevalent in Bihar," he said.
The center's director for climate resilient agriculture Ratnesh Jha outlined the various benefits of this collaboration, including access to global climate data, cutting-edge technologies and enhanced scientific cooperation.
