Silchar: Representatives of various tribal organisations assembled outside Silchar Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday evening, questioning the delayed post-mortem examination of 10 ‘militants' who lost their lives during an encounter with security in Manipur's Jiribam on Monday.
The SMCH received the bodies on Tuesday. While six bodies underwent post-mortem examination, the remaining four were scheduled for Wednesday. In the evening, members of the tribal groups congregated outside SMCH, voicing concerns about the prolonged autopsy process. Talking to the media, they enquired about the extended timeline for completing the procedure.
They insisted on swift completion of the procedure and subsequent release of the bodies. The demonstration continued through the time of reporting.
SP (Cachar) Numal Mahatta addressed the situation, stating that post mortem procedures had been ongoing at SMCH since Manipur Police delivered the bodies. He said there was no deliberate postponement of the process.
