Chandigarh: The first session of Haryana legislative assembly is likely to be a stormy one when it convenes on Wednesday, in spite of the main opposition party, Congress, not naming a leader of opposition.
The House is expected to be witness to an uproar over the issue of farmers, especially DAP shortage and complaints of non-procurement of crops at MSP.
The session will start with the governor's address. BJP ministers claim that Congress is a divided house, and opposition had no agenda, but Congress MLAs claimed otherwise.
“As far as farmers are concerned, we will raise the issues on the floor of the House. The main debate will be held on the governor’s address and the claims of achievements made by the BJP govt. Our MLAs have also given calling attention motions and adjournment motions on certain issues of public interests,” said former CM and Congress MLA from Garhi Sampla-Kiloi seat Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
Referring to the issue of LoP, Hooda said it may take time. “We have already passed a resolution and AICC is going to take a call on it. As of now, all leaders are busy in Maharashtra and Jharkhand assembly elections. I think the decision on this issue will be taken after elections,” said Hooda.
He added they were prepared to take on the failures of BJP govt and issues of the past.
INLD, which has two MLAs, too has geared up for the session. INLD MLA Arjun Chautala on Monday listed out questions and calling attention motions posted by him. Party MLA Aditya Devilal will raise issues of farmers and law and order.
Haryana transport and energy minister Anil Vij claimed that since there was no such issue left with opposition, it would be a smooth session. “CLP (Congress legislature party) is leaderless. So far as issues are concerned, our govt has addressed every main issue of public interest. Otherwise, in a democracy, everybody has a right to speak. Let them raise the issues, we are prepared,” Vij added.
In the 90-member House, BJP has 48 MLAs, Congress 37, and INLD two. The remaining three MLAs are independents who are supporting BJP.
Speaker takes stock
Speaker Harvinder Kalyan took stock of the preparedness of the assembly secretariat for the session. He checked the main assembly hall, security arrangements and traffic flow of vehicles during the session. He also reviewed arrangements for staff on session duty and their conveniences, said officials.
