Hyderabad: As winter sets in, temperatures have started declining throughout the state. Minimum temperatures in north Telangana fell from 20°C to 13°C in a week.
Sirur in Asifabad recorded the state's lowest reading at 13.5°C last night. In Hyderabad, evenings have turned chilly after 7 pm. During the past 24 hours, Patancheru recorded 15.2°C, the lowest in the city. Areas like Rajendranagar saw temperatures hovering around 16°C.
According to India Meteorological Department, the prevailing weather conditions are due to low-level easterlies/northern easterlies. In the wake of these weather conditions, nights and early mornings have turned colder and will turn harsh as winter intensifies and grips the state in the coming weeks.
In fact, on Monday night, seven districts, including Sangareddy, Nirmal, and Nizamabad, witnessed temperatures falling below normal.
"Winter is expected to gain momentum by Nov end and will peak by Dec. The forecast also indicates the possibility of rainfall in the state in the next five days," said a senior official in IMD.
Cold wave conditions are very likely to prevail towards Dec end or Jan in parts of northern Telangana like Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, and Jagtial.
