Patna: A woman constable, Chandani Kumari (23), resident of Vaishali district, who was to be married in a week, died by suicide at Musrigharari police station in Samastipur district on Wednesday. Her family members alleged that denial of leave by her seniors was the reason behind the extreme step.
She hanged herself in the washroom of the women's barrack of the station with the help of her ‘dupatta'. She left a suicide note.
Chandani was to be married to a police personnel posted at Bidupur in Vaishali district.
Samastipur Sadar SDPO-1, Sanjay Kumar Pandey, said, "She was posted in the Dial-112 team of Musrigharari police station. It appears that she planned to commit suicide on the bed, but due to the presence of fellow constables, she went to the bathroom and hanged herself with a scarf."
However, her father Suresh Pandit, said that her wedding was scheduled on November 20 and she had requested leave from her department on November 13, but her seniors were not granting it. He said around Rs 12lakh was spent on the preparation for the wedding.
The SDPO refuted the non-denial of leave and said police recovered a notebook on the bed of the constable in which many things were written.
"Her colleagues mentioned that she was talking to someone over the phone for around an hour. Her phone has been seized for forensic examination. Further probe will reveal the reason behind the suicide," the SDPO added.
