T'puram: District collector Anu Kumari IAS promised to take appropriate action to ensure the safety of residents at Vilavoorkal, where bullets were found in the houses.
As many as four bullets were found inside and outside the houses of residents. One bullet was seen on the sofa of a house as it pierced through the sheet roof.
Based on preliminary findings and circumstantial evidence, Malayinkeezhu police confirmed that the bullets came from Mukkunnimala firing station of the Indian Army. There was a firing session at the station recently using AK-47 and SLR rifles for Kerala police, and the bullets were believed to have landed in the houses after deviating from the trajectory.
On Tuesday, police submitted a report to the collector demanding appropriate action over the developments. Residents of Vilavoorkal expressed their concern over finding bullets at their houses as it poses threat to their safety.
Six years ago, similar incidents were reported in the locality, but nothing was done on the report submitted by the then collector.
"Let me go through the report, which is yet to reach my table. I have to study the matter in detail before taking any action. The safety of the residents is of paramount importance," the collector said.
Meanwhile, Vilavoorkal panchayat is all set to meet the collector and human rights panel demanding to ensure the safety of residents by finding a suitable solution. Panchayat president also criticized police for not registering any case on the incident.
Police said that there is no provision to register a case on the incident, but a report can be submitted to the collector.
The team from ATS and the armour team of police held inspections at the site. Police will send the bullets for FSL examination as well.
