Vasco: Villagers of Mollo and Pale in Velsao on Tuesday accused Rail Vikash Nigam Ltd (RVNL) of encroaching on their ancestral properties. Members of Goencho Ekvott gathered at the disputed site and found that RVNL had begun construction. After their objection, the work was temporarily halted.
Agitated villagers called South Goa MP Capt Viriato Fernandes to the site. Goencho Ekvott founder member Orville Dourado Rodrigues and Congress office bearer Olencio Simoes briefed Fernandes on the situation.
The South Goa MP has sought the intervention of the district collector. The villagers have strongly objected to the land survey conducted by the Mormugao mamlatdar's office, alleging that a junior surveyor was assigned the task with an outdated survey plan. Following discussions with the deputy collector and sub-divisional magistrate of Mormugao, it was decided to conduct a new land survey on November 18.
