Thane, 12th November 2024: The Thane police arrested 105 individuals as part of an extensive “All Out Operation” aimed at curbing criminal activities and ensuring law and order in the lead-up to the Maharashtra Elections 2024, officials announced on Tuesday.
During the operation, which took place between Sunday and Monday night, the police seized 43 weapons, including rifles, and illegal liquor worth Rs 5.07 lakh.
Of those arrested, 41 were taken into custody under the Arms Act after police recovered 31 country-made firearms, seven sickles, and five swords. Additionally, 15 individuals were detained under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act for their involvement in the illegal drug trade.
The police also carried out checks at 74 hotels, 64 lodges, 39 beer bars, and 42 dance bars across the city. In total, 179 individuals were charged under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act for various violations, including smoking in public places.
Criminal background checks were conducted on 140 individuals, and 1,210 vehicles were inspected. As a result, 2,149 people were fined for violating the Motor Vehicles Act, with the police collecting Rs 18.58 lakh in fines.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain alert and report any suspicious activity to help ensure a peaceful and fair election process.
