Surat: A 24-year-old woman from Dindoli was allegedly raped multiple times by a neighbour who contacted her over social media. The accused threatened the woman saying he would show her WhatsApp and Instagram chats to her husband.
He also allegedly assaulted her after the rape. The accused allegedly lured her by promising to give her information about her husband's affair. Dindoli police have booked the man for rape, criminal intimidation and voluntarily causing hurt.
The complainant, who is from Vyara, married a man from Dindoli in 2020 and had a child three years ago. In 2023, during the Ganpati festival in their society, the victim took selfies with the idol and posted them on Instagram.
The accused, Mahesh Ahire, who lived in the same society, commented on her post and praised her. She spoke to Ahire after that and sent him a few pictures of the festival that he asked for. A few days later, he called her to the terrace and allegedly raped and assaulted her. Ahire told her that her husband was in a relationship with another woman and he would give her more details in the future. One day, Ahire called her to his home saying he wanted to discuss something and raped her.
Three months ago, the victim had domestic discord with her husband and mother-in-law and went to her parents' home in Vyara. Ahire kept calling her in Vyara, promising to give her information about her husband's affair. He also threatened to reveal their relationship to her husband and blackmailed her out of Rs 37,000.
In July this year, he went to Vyara on the pretext of giving her information about her husband's affair. He took her to a hotel in Songadh and raped her again. Ahire continued to threaten and blackmail her and raped her two more times.
As Ahire continued to blackmail her, she filed a complaint with Dindoli police.
