Mongolian embassy praises cops' gesture
PRATAPGARH/LUCKNOW: A Mongolian man who came to India to learn yoga but lost his way was rescued from UP’s Pratapgarh district. A team of Pratapgarh police took him to the Mongolian embassy in Delhi on Sunday from where he will be sent back home. The man was identified as 37-year-old Khurelbaatar Batsuuri.
The Mongolian embassy officials have praised the noble gesture and efforts undertaken by the Pratapgarh police in helping their national, said Pratapgarh SP Anil Kumar.
Sharing the details of the incident, Kumar told TOI: An emergency call was made to UP 112 helpline on Nov 6 about a foreigner found in a weak condition near Antoo in Pratapgarh. A police team reached the spot and found the man in a frail state. He was immediately admitted to a hospital. He was unable to communicate and appeared disoriented. We initially suspected he had been poisoned and focused on stabilizing his health.”
“Despite repeated attempts, the man was unable to communicate his identity or how he reached Pratapgarh. Since he did not have any documents, we were unable to determine his nationality or purpose of visit,” the SP added. Kumar said the man’s health showed improvement after November 8.
“We started using words in Nepalese, Chinese and even Korean but there was no response. When we used some words in Mongolian he responded and we had the breakthrough,” said a police officer involved in the case. With the help of tools like Google Translate, the man was able to identify himself as Khurelbaatar Batsuuri.
Further questioning revealed that he had come to India to practise yoga, believing it would help him recover from some mental health issues. He had entered India from Nepal but could not recall when he entered India or how he reached Pratapgarh.
“Once his nationality was established, we informed the Mongolian embassy. On Nov 10, four police officers escorted the man to the Mongolian embassy in Delhi, where his nationality was officially confirmed,” said the SP.
