Ahmedabad: Even though Bopal, with a population of around 1.70 lakh, is included in the smart city Ahmedabad, cops are struggling to find a good CCTV footage that captured the accused who killed the 23-year-old Mica student Priyanshu Jain.
Now, the cops are relying on the age-old technique of sketching to identify and trace the accused. Inspector B T Gohil of Bopal police said they only knew from the deceased's friend that it was a dark-coloured small SUV from which the driver came out and stabbed Jain.
"We tried to find CCTV footage of the area but did not find any footage that captured the accused or his car. Various teams comprising cops from the Bopal police station, local crime branch (LCB), and special operations group (SOG) have been formed to nab the accused," said Gohil.
Sources in Bopal police said that the deceased's friend Prithviraj Mahapatra, who is the complainant in the murder case, was not able to see the number of the car. "Cops are trying to get CCTV footage from local shops. We will have to identify the car first, from which the accused would be identified," said a source with Bopal police.
After cops did not find any clue for around 24 hours since the murder took place, police personnel took the help of a sketch artist, and Mahapatra narrated features of the accused. Cops said they are relying on human intelligence to nab the accused.
