Prayagraj: Samajwadi Party has written to the Chief Electoral Officer of Uttar Pradesh demanding transfer of DSP (Handia) and the SHO (Jhunsi) for allegedly harassing the supporters of the party's Phulpur assembly bypoll candidate and pressuring them to campaign in favour of BJP.
In the letter, SP state president Shyamlal Pal alleged that if the Deputy SP (Handia) and SHO (Jhunsi Police Station) remain in their posts, then fair, independent, transparent and fear-free voting cannot take place.
"Both officers are working as agents of BJP," he said.
Pal also alleged that the vehicles of INDIA bloc candidate Mujtaba Siddiqui were detained for hours in the name of checking. Apart from this, SP supporters were pressured to campaign for the BJP, and if they do not comply, they were threatened with being sent to jail in fake cases and that their houses will be bulldozed.
