Patna: A day after three police personnel were injured in an attack by the residents of Kamla Nehru Nagar here on Monday, four people, including two women and prime suspect Sanjeet Paswan, alias Chawani, were arrested on Tuesday.
The forces from Kotwali and Buddha Colony police stations in Patna had gone to Paswan Tola in Kamla Nehru Nagar to arrest smack suppliers, Chawani and his brother Rajeet Paswan, alias Athani, when they were allegedly pelting with stones. The three police personnel were injured and admitted to hospital.
An FIR was lodged against 18 named accused and 25-30 unidentified people at Kotwali police station in this connection.
Rajan Kumar, Kotwali station house officer (SHO), said that acting on a tip-off, the police team raided the area and arrested Athani on Monday. "However, he and his associates started shouting ‘thief-thief' and gathered the local residents who attacked the police team, helping the accused escape from the custody," he said, adding Chawani, however, was arrested on Tuesday from a public hospital in Gardanibagh with the help of technical evidence.
"He (Chawani) said that he was experiencing some pain in abdomen and was getting treated under police surveillance. The other three — Mohd Sonu, Shahjahan Khatoon and Ruby Devi — were arrested from their homes," Kumar said, adding raids were being conducted to arrest the other accused involved in the attack.
