Gurgaon: A special traffic alleviation plan will soon be chalked out for Gurgaon-Jhajjar Road, a crucial link road to newer sectors off Dwarka Expressway and adjacent districts that remain choke-a-block during rush hours each day.
State minister of industry and commerce, environment, forests, and wildlife Rao Narbir Singh, who inspected on Monday the 1,400-metre stretch, directed officials to come up with a special plan to prevent snarls on the road. He directed officials of PWD, GMDA and the municipal corporation to hold joint meetings to resolve the issue within a set timeframe.
The minister also asked officials to add more slabs on a canal near Dhankot or explore other options to ensure better traffic management on the stretch. The Gurgaon-Jhajjar Road, connecting Shyam Baba Chowk to Dwarka expressway, is part of the state highway and falls under the jurisdiction of the public works department (PWD). Currently, the road is riddled with potholes, with certain stretches waterlogged due to overflowing sewerage. During the inspection, residents highlighted the poor condition of the road due to a lack of maintenance .
Earlier, PWD officials told TOI that water accumulated on the Dhankot stretch as the adjacent master sector road and Dwarka expressway are at a higher elevation. "There is a need for ground-level plans to develop infrastructure in Gurgaon for the benefit of citizens. Officials have been instructed to undertake immediate repair of roads passing through and bypassing Dhankot and resolve waterlogging issues," Narbir said.
