The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids in 17 locations across Jharkhand and Bengal, targeting illegal Bangladeshi infiltration and money laundering. The raids, occurring a day before the first phase of Jharkhand assembly elections, are based on a case in Ranchi involving a Bangladeshi girl's illegal entry. The operation aims to expose agents facilitating infiltration by providing fake documents.
RANCHI: A day before the first phase of voting in Jharkhand tomorrow, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday launched raids at multiple locations in Jharkhand and Bengal in connection to Bangladeshi infiltration and money laundering cases. ED sources in Ranchi said that the raids are being conducted across 17 locations in both states.
The raids are being conducted in Ranchi too, at a couple of hotels in the city. Notably, the ED is carrying out the operations based on a case registered in Ranchi in connection with illegal infiltration by a girl from Bangladesh.
The ED also aims to unearth the agents who are facilitating the illegal infiltration by providing them with the required documents.
The opposition BJP-led NDA has been raising the issue of illegal infiltration as one of its major poll planks in the upcoming Jharkhand assembly polls.
The ruling regime, however, is accusing the BJP-led govt in the Centre of doing politics over the sensitive issue for polarisation, questioning why it isn’t able to curb illegal infiltrators coming into the country via Assam.
On today’s raids, Congress’s spokesperson Lal Kishorenath Shahdeo said that they are politically motivated to influence elections, while BJP’s spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo hit back, stating that the central agencies are doing their jobs.
