Jaipur: City police are facing challenges as protesters have begun scaling mobile towers and overhead water tanks to voice their demands. On Monday, two persons climbed a mobile tower near MI Road, demanding justice in the Dimple Meena (10) murder case, who was found dead in Karauli, and her parents were later arrested in connection with her death. The protesters, both from the same community, called for a CBI inquiry in the case.
At the same time, two protesters atop an overhead water tank in Bajaj Nagar are refusing to come down until their demand for the immediate cancellation of the Sub-Inspector (SI) 2021 exams is met. They have been there since Sunday. One of the protestors released a video from the tank in which he claimed that something was mixed in the water bottle provided to him.In response, the police issued a statement saying that it was an unfounded claim. They also stated that they were willing to have the water medically examined.
The Jaipur police noted that they advised the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) to strengthen security around water tanks to prevent such incidents, but little progress has been made so far. In response to the growing trend of protests at elevated locations, the police are also implementing measures to monitor mobile towers more closely. "This is the first time in recent history that people climbed a mobile tower, which is extremely dangerous. There are towers everywhere, and we cannot guard every location," said an official. The official added that for several months, the city police were grappling with the problem of protesters using these high points to stage demonstrations.
"We have noticed that these protesters plan meticulously," the police official said.
