Surat: A notorious criminal launched an audacious attack on six policemen, allegedly beating two of them and ramming his SUV into the police control room (PCR) vehicle twice in Reshmanagar locality in Bhestan.
The history-sheeter Yunus, alias Teni Pathan, picked up a quarrel with someone in the locality a little after Monday midnight. When constable Gunjankumar and his colleague reached there, Pathan allegedly attacked them.
According to details of the incident, Bhestan head constable Bhavin Gadhvi and two other cops, Narendrakumar and Naresh, were patrolling in the PCR car at Bhindi Bazar. At around 1:30 am, Gadhvi received a message from Constable Gunjankumar that there was tension in Reshmanagar, and he rushed there with assistant sub-inspector Riteshbhai.
A crowd had gathered in the area as Pathan was quarrelling with someone. Gunjankumar informed Gadhvi that Pathan attacked him and the ASI.
Gadhvi, along with the two constables, reached there and brought the situation under control by dispersing the mob.
When Gadhvi tried taking Pathan to the police station for attacking the cops, he started fleeing in his SUV. The cops chased him in the PCR, but Pathan suddenly took a U-turn near a hotel and hit the car from the front. He did not stop there as he reversed the car and hit the police vehicle from the rear again.
Bhestan police booked him for attempted murder, criminally assaulting a public servant on duty, driving endangering life, and damage to property, among other sections of the BNS.
Several teams have been formed to nab Pathan. Police said Pathan has several offences under the Prohibition Act, gambling, and assaults lodged against him in the city.
