Homegrown automaker Maruti Suzuki, on Monday, launched the new Dzire sedan, introducing a fresh take on one of India’s most popular sedans. With over 2.7 million units sold since its inception, the Dzire has surpassed the total sales of the entire sedan segment in India, according to Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director of Maruti Suzuki.

Interestingly, the new Dzire is Maruti’s first model to achieve a five-star rating from Global NCAP for adult occupant protection, while also receiving four stars for child occupant safety.

The 2025 Dzire is built on the Z-series 1.2-litre, three-cylinder engine, a reliable powertrain that produces 80.5 bhp and 112 Nm of torque. With CNG, the same engine churns out 69.75hp and 101.8Nm of torque. This engine, shared with the new Swift, offers excellent fuel efficiency, delivering approximately 24 km per litre in petrol and around 33 km per kilogram in CNG, making it a competitive choice in its segment.

Safety has been a primary focus for Maruti with this model. Equipped with six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), ISOFIX child seat anchors, three-point seat belts for all five seats, pedestrian protection, anti-lock brakes, and rear parking sensors, the new Dzire is designed to meet stringent safety expectations.

The model scored 31.24 out of 34 for adult safety and 39.20 out of 49 for child safety in the Global NCAP’s crash tests, achieving safety milestones that improved upon the previous Dzire, which had a two-star rating in both categories.

Inside, the 2025 Dzire features a similar interior layout to the Swift, aimed at providing a comfortable, user-friendly experience. A freestanding 9-inch touchscreen, features like automatic climate control, wireless charging, an engine start/stop button, and rear AC vents, enhance the driving experience. The new Dzire also introduces an electric sunroof, a first for this model and segment.

In line with Maruti Suzuki’s shift in market positioning, this latest Dzire model will be available solely for private buyers, distancing itself from fleet sales. However, the Dzire Tour S will remain in production for fleet operators. This approach allows the new Dzire to maintain a more exclusive appeal while offering a practical option for commercial purposes. Partho Banerjee, Maruti Suzuki’s Head of Marketing & Sales, confirmed this decision as part of the company’s long-term strategy.

Maruti also offers two optional accessory packs for customisation — Copperico and Chromico — which add aesthetic enhancements to the interior and exterior. The packages, priced separately, allow buyers to personalise their vehicle.
